New Skiing Slopes in Poiana Brasov

A new skiing area was opened on Monday, December 26th, 2011, in Romania's most famous skiing resort, Poiana Brasov, which is located just 12 km (~7.5 miles) away from the city of Brasov. Following an investment of 25 million Euro (plus VAT), the Poiana Brasov ski area increased by 50 hectares to 85 hectares (~210 acres), extending the total length of the ski slopes from 16 km (~10 miles) to 24 km (~15 miles). Thanks to the modernization of the slopes and the installation of artificial snow machines, the ski season can now be extended to four months a year.

The main ski slopes in Poiana Brasov are:

  • Lupui Slope - 2.6 km (~1.6 miles) - advanced;
  • Sulinar - 2.8 km (~1.7 miles) - intermediate;
  • Drumul Rosu - 5.3 km (~3.3 miles) - intermediate/beginner;
  • Sub Teleferic - 2.8 km (~1.7 miles) - advanced;
  • Kanzel - 0.8 km (~0.5 miles) - advanced;
  • Bradul - 0.5 km (~0.3 miles) - beginner.

The ski area stretches along one side of the Postavaru Massif at an altitude of 1030 m. The ski slopes of various difficulty degrees are equipped with cable cars, gondolas and several ski lifts with a large capacity of people per hour.

Other investments in skiing centers are underway in Valley Jiu, in some important ski resorts at Straja, Lupeni, Vulcan, Petrosani, Parang and in the Vidra resort.
